On February 2, Jaguar‘s team participated in the spinning marathon as part of Sporten voor Sophia (Sports for Sophia), the annual event where money is raised to fund scientific research in collaboration with the Sophia Children’s Hospital in Rotterdam.
This year the proceeds go to a charitable cause all participants could see was important: the investigation into the long term consequences of premature birth and its treatment, the causes of heart, lung and respiratory diseases and how to prevent and treat long term complications. On Saturday and Sunday spinning for charity took place in six blocks of three hours. During the first spinning block on Sunday, from 09.00 to 12.00 hrs, Jaguar’s team went into action.
The participants pedalled themselves into a sweat for Sophia with Jaguar participating in the spinning marathon for the third consecutive time, only with a record 25 bicycles this time around. Afterwards, it was revealed that Sporten voor Sophia (Sports for Sophia) had raised a total of € 281.600. Besides a financial contribution, a few years in a row Jaguar also sponsored the fruit that was distributed by Jaguar employee Truus Klootwijk (who has been involved in the organisation of the event as a volunteer for many years) and others to all participants during the spinning blocks. For this reason and because Jan Gelmers of Jaguar had raised the highest individual sponsor amount, over € 2.500, Kees Rijnhout received the ‘Sophietje’ statue on the podium as a thank you.
Jaguar is proud to have been able to contribute to this fantastic event!
